The idea
The rising cost of living is putting pressure on parents and forcing them to face difficult decisions around feeding and clothing their children. Our community hubs will help us respond to the growing demand for our service, enabling us to reach more vulnerable families needing support. To help do this we'll need to recruit a community champion to coordinate and deliver this work. We'll also be recruiting local volunteers to aid this work, enabling them to contribute to their local community. Unlike our core service where we work on a referral basis, these regular hubs will be a place for families to have a choice, and access essential items they need. We'll provide basic hygiene essentials such as nappies, wipes and toiletries. But we'll also be offering pre loved clothing bundles including baby items, school uniform and winter coats. Not only will this massively help families and children, but it also has a positive environmental impact by reducing clothing waste.
What we'll deliver
- Essential hygiene and clothing items provided to families in need
- A community champion and team of volunteers to help respond to and understand the needs of the community
Why it's a great idea
This will benefit families living in the local area. It will help some of the 26% of children living in poverty in the county, receive some of the essential items they require. It will help expectant mothers, new mum's, and mum's and dad's with multiple children. It will help school children of all ages. It will benefit local people looking for ways to put their skills to good use and engage in their community through the voluntary roles that will be available. It will also be beneficial to the buildings we hold the hubs in, raising their profile with the public as an approachable and accessible space.
Steps to get it done
- Recruit a community champion to coordinate all the community hubs
- Recruit volunteers to work across all community hubs
- Delivering regular community hubs
