The idea

Lancaster Litfest is the third-oldest literature festival in the country, and we're very proud to produce brilliant festivals while being entirely run by volunteers and supported by our audiences and occasional project grants.

For our spring festival (Litfest 2025), we're hoping to celebrate and inspire our youngest audience members by holding a children's mini-festival. The plan is to put on a full weekend of brilliant FREE children's events, featuring...

• the best of local and national authors and illustrators
• engaging workshops and activities for budding readers and artists
• something for every child, from toddlers to teens

At Litfest we love books, but we're particularly passionate about connecting young people (and their friends and family) with literature, helping to inspire a love of reading that will last their whole lives. For an adult, it's exciting to meet an author or find a new favourite book — but for a child it might just be an experience they remember forever.

What we'll deliver

  • A children's mini-festival at Litfest 2024
  • Engaging free events with writers and illustrators
  • Free workshops and activities
