Our programme promotes community cohesion through helping marginalised groups come together through artistic activity. This includes a wide variety of creative workshops and art groups, which use the Ideas Hub as a base, for example: “creative moods”, a Monday art group for those living with mental health disorders.
More recently this summer we re-established Chelmsford’s Arts trail with a local art gallery, Gallery 43, the arts trail runs from 22nd July 2018 to 5th August 2018 and has over 26 locations. We also organised the first Chelmsford portrait competition, which had two categories for professional and amateur artists.
For Chelmsford Festival, in June 2018, we delivered all the visual art events and dance events with young people who brought: Hip Hop, Bollywood, Salsa and many other dance styles to the streets of Chelmsford. We have worked with the local authorities Chelmsford City Council and Essex County Council over the last four years to strengthen the arts offer in Chelmsford.
In 2017 we delivered large-scale innovative artistic projects: Rain Art Chelmsford brought six artists together to create a Citywide trail of street art which only appeared in the rain, all the artworks were linked to the waterways in Chelmsford. We also were commissioned by, Abellio Greater Anglia, to create a large-scale mural, the theme was decided during art workshops with the help of local young carers at YMCA, this is on permanent display at Chelmsford Railway Station.
