The idea

We are looking to purchase and install portable floodlights to enable us to provide winter rugby training for all our teams and age groups. This will allow the whole club to be able to train on our moss side pitches throughout the winter off season. We are unable to provide a winter training programme currently as we are wholly reliant on being able to hire local facilities. These facilities are often booked up more than a year in advance. The installation of portable floodlights will ensure that rugby training and coaching can take place all year round, enabling all our players, young and old, to improve their skills and increase participation in the sport. Without winter training there is a very real risk of individuals leaving the club and withdrawing from playing rugby altogether. Guaranteeing winter training will allow our players to continue and enhance their sporting activities.

What we'll deliver

  • Portable floodlight
  • Winter training at our Moss Side club
  • Club kitchen/bar will be utilised to serve spectators/players and local residents

Why it's a great idea

We will provide significantly enhanced rugby facilities for our local community that will allow us to extend our coaching programme to provide all year-round training and events. This is vital for us and our wider community as currently we don't have winter training facilities. Our project will directly enable us to ensure our junior, SEN and senior teams remain engaged in the game. Playing sport has significant health benefits, including tackling obesity. It also brings communities together and provides opportunities for social interaction. We will also encourage increased use of our club facilities by the wider community with further plans in place for next season with the launch of our open age men's team. We are also planning an end of season fun day to attract all ages to our club, this will directly engage the community and will be an opportunity to launch our new winter season training programme and to promote the facilities at the club available for use by the community.

Steps to get it done

  • Place order for portable floodlights

We are a community-based club in South Ribble, offering a range of training opportunities for many junior and senior teams from introducing them to the sport for the first time to providing coaching and training facilities for our senior players. We are the only club in Lancashire to have an SEN team, there are significant benefits for young people with special educational needs participating in sport including encouraging the development of motor skills, building vital communication and social skills, and improving confidence. This project will help us to provide an increased programme of training opportunities during the winter months. Increasing our operating capability will greatly improve access and provision for people in our community. Participating in community sport is a great way for young people to make connections as it allows them to find mentors. It also allows parents with kids participating in community sports to connect with other parents.
