SARA is a multi-disciplinary rescue organisation operating in the Severn, Usk, Wye and Avon river areas.
We have 7 stations, namely; Newport, Beachley, Sharpness, Cirencester, Upton, Tewkesbury and Wyre Forest.
With 4 sections – Lifeboat, Swift Water, Land and Rope rescue teams
SARA works with many agencies providing search and rescue support. SARA is a registered CIO.
The SARA Lifeboat section provides inshore lifeboat support to the coastguard covering the Severn Estuary, the tidal Wye and tidal Usk and the Bristol Channel. SARA is a Declared Facility for MCA with sole responsibility for lifeboat operations in our area. This has been the case for 50 years. The objective of the SARA lifeboat service is to provide professional search and rescue support to the appropriate agencies and the people of our area. This is achieved through rigorous training of volunteers, maintenance of all assets and maintaining a constant preparedness for deployment. SARA is run entirely by volunteers and financed through donations. We also cover the river Avon at and around Tewkesbury where we are tasked by the police to cover the water elements of missing person searches.
SARA is governed by a Board of Trustees and managed by an Executive Committee.
