The idea
The past few years have seen Camden and Islington Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month hold the biggest calender of events in the UK. After so many diverse activities it is wonderful to allow everyone to come together, share stories, meet up with acquaintances old and new and enjoy a great show. This event is looking to eclipse all of our past closing nights. To be inclusive and open to all we don't want to charge anyone to come along. This is why we are crowdfunding for the event and we think it is a great chance to make a real difference in a positive and fun setting. Well deserved after a month of learning!
We will showcase talent from all across the LGBT community through dance, music, poetry and art. We will showcase this from a wide field including acts with disabilities, from an array of cultures and from the whole LGBT and queer spectrum. We will also have installations from some of our History Month activity contributors to engage guests with great wisdom.
What we'll deliver

Why it's a great idea
So many of us in the LGBT community are unaware of our histories. This can lead to a feeling of isolation and exclusion. The month seeks to address this and give people a sense of ownership of our past. The party gives people the chance to come together in a friendly and informal setting to make new friends and enjoy each others' company. Most LGBT events are very 'gay bar' focussed and there are less and less opportunities for LGBT people from all backgrounds, communities and ages to meet and have fun. Many of our LGBT communities don't feel safe outing themselves in a traditional setting or spending time on the traditional 'scene'. Our closing night will bring a breath of fresh air to a Saturday night and allow people to meet those they would otherwise not.
Steps to get it done
- Book LGBT perfomers
- Hire Conway Hall in Holborn
- Market the event to be as inclusive as possible
- Provide for tech support, security, staff and bar
Anyone that contributes to our campaign will receive a VIP ticket with access to our VIP room and a free glass of something nice!
We also welcome sponsors from companies and organisations - a great way to show your support for the LGBT community - we will give you lots of opportunity to publicise yourselves if you wish to help out.
