The local economy

50+ local ethical small businesses contributed to a vibrant event giving a boost to the local hospitality, creative and wellness economy.

Volunteering, jobs & education

A volunteer coordinator and a team of 30 volunteers were instrumental in making the show a success. A good opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and build confidence to return to employment in some cases. The Health and Wellness Show was educational and inspiring and the charity aims to empower people to make positive changes in their own lives.

Activity, health and leisure

Free yoga and tai chi classes and all day wellbeing walks around the grounds were extremely popular. The outdoors kids entertainment team were excellent too and the feedback all very positive.

Together Against Cancer is a Leicester city-based registered charity (Charity Number:1123665) dedicated to the relief of cancer and similar conditions through education, complementary therapies, grant-giving and public awareness. Our commitment to dis-ease prevention and healing extends to similar charities both in the UK and overseas, such as grants to The Foundation for Collaborative Medicine and Research (CollMed) and Destiny Medical Fund.

The popularity of a series of external educational events led to the opening of the Education and Wellness Centre in 2016 where we offer free nutritional guidance, practical workshops and one-to-one therapies to help with the healing process.

During 2020 and the pandemic, our small team diversified online and continued to provide dedicated support to clients. Together Against Cancer were winners in the Fitness and Nutrition Awards, a highlight in a difficult year for everyone. In September we were pleased to re-commence complementary therapies on GP referral.

The online support provided over the last 18 months has translated into a new website with a new Healing Hub membership launched in September 2021. This new initiative includes cooking videos, mindfulness sessions, pre-recorded workshops, interviews, live-streaming and a chat forum. The membership is free of charge for clients of Together Against Cancer and available to the general public for a small monthly charge. The flexibility of the system means that we are also able to provide personalised support to companies for employee wellbeing programs.

2021 marks our five year anniversary at the centre where we have welcomed thousands of visitors to our workshops and therapy sessions. We are now actively seeking larger premises with green space. This would open up our services to more people and include teaching about growing food whilst caring for physical and mental wellbeing.

We are hosting our fourth Health and Wellness Show in April 2022 and plan to make it a very special event. It’s an opportunity to bring local people together, raise spirits and share our vision of a bright future for the people of Leicester.
