Bringing people together behind good ideas that communities want to see happen!
Ice Hockey is a growing minority sport in the Uk. Chelmsford has a 30 year history of having a senior ice hockey team the Chelmsford Chieftains which in recent years been a highly successful side. The junior club has recently started running a learn to play ice hockey course after the rink cancelled the their own course. We are fundraising in order to run along side our learn to play a ‘this girl can’ course. This would help us introduce the sport to more girls and help us in the future to introduce a junior girls team. There are many opportunities with h ice Hockey for girls who can play profession hockey from 16 years old and have the chance to represent in Team England as well as Team GB. For us to achieve this we need to purchase equipment such as helmets, sticks and gloves, a dividing barrier as well as coaching and ice time costs.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Ice Hockey is a fantastic sport for all. Beyond just playing the sport there are opportunities to do junior coaching qualifications as well as referee/officials courses. Hockey itself is great for developing leadership and teamwork skills, creates memories and life long friendships. They learn to follow rules, that hard work pays off, perseverance, tolerance towards others, sportsmanship, dealing with disapointmeny and accepting defeat and winning gracefully. We have girls within the junior club that play alongside the boys but there is scope for them to also be able to play in the u16 girls league. This opportunity gives them more experience and boosts their confidence by being able to learn without any distractions. Quite often in a mixed team there is only 1 girl so having the opportunity to play in a team of all girls game gives them a different experience that lays the ground work for them to play in women’s teams as they get older.
