We are two primary schools that are part of the Together Learning Trust, where personal development is at the heart of everything we do. We are constantly seeking opportunities to ensure our children are exposed to experiences that will help them develop into balanced, curious and well-rounded young people. We strongly believe that collaboration - through sharing resources, ideas, and support - ensures that all children receive a better education. We are thrilled, this year, to have the unique opportunity to work with the professional musicians and cast from the renowned Opera North.
For this project, all Year 5 children (ages 9 and 10) have committed to learning eight opera songs. Together with their class teachers and the support of Opera North workshops, the children will embark on an exciting musical journey. They will unite on Thursday, June 26th to perform 'Wonderland Restored', a piece of music specifically written and created for this project. This perfomance at St. Bartholomew's in Meltham will be open to all. Our 'Night at the Opera' will ensure that local businesses and supporters, as well as family and friends are able to come to watch and enjoy the results of the hard work and effort which the children are putting into this opportunity.
This is an ambitious initiative, and our goal is to provide our children with as much exposure to culture and the arts as possible. By doing so, we aim to offer them a well-rounded and balanced education that will enrich their academic and personal growth. The Meltham Moor PTA is a registered charity and are the umbrella supporting this project - enabling us to crowdfund and hopefully reieve funding from the Kirklees Growing Great Places scheme.
