By Laugharne Citizen Science Group
Laugharne Citizen Science Group want to purchase essential river water testing equipment, to test for, among others, nitrates, phosphates and ammonia – standard tests to determine water quality.

Join us in our mission to protect the waterways flowing into the beautiful Laugharne estuary. Funding will allow us to buy equipment needed to gather vital scientific data through comprehensive monitoring, starting with the River Corran. Our vision extends to collaborating with neighbouring towns to monitor the larger River Taf, which goes through Whitland & St Clears before entering Laugharne estuary. Water quality is the lifeblood of our environment. Clean water is essential for the health of our ecosystems and the wellbeing of communities. Poor water quality can harm wildlife, disrupt local economies & pose serious health risks to residents. By ensuring our waterways remain clean & safe, we protect our natural heritage & contribute to a sustainable future. • We will monitor key indicators of water quality such as the presence of pollutants. • Findings will be shared with Welsh Water and Natural Resources Wales. We will alert the relevant authorities to any signs of pollution.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Together, we can make a difference and ensure that the Laugharne estuary remains a haven for wildlife and a cherished resource for future generations. This project aims to raise awareness within the community, including children, about the pressing environmental issues we face. Through engaging educational initiatives and hands-on participation, we will foster a deeper connection to our natural world and empower individuals to become active stewards of our environment. By monitoring the water quality Citizen Science groups can identify possible pollution events, check the resilience of aquatic exo systems and safeguard human health. Join us in safeguarding our waters – because clean water means a healthier, happier community for all.
Steps to get it done:
Poor water quality can harm wildlife, disrupt local economies & pose serious health risks to residents. By ensuring our waterways remain clean & safe, we protect our natural heritage & contribute to a sustainable future.

We have re-opened the fundraising . We successfully raised the original sum required- thanks to all who donated. We want to expand our testing to other local rivers and the estuary. The estuary requires different equipment that can test sea brackish water. There will also be an ongoing need for consumables as we expand the river coverage. Please do mention to anyone you think might be interested.
Here's the agenda for Tuesday's meeting. It is at 6.30pm in the committee room at Laugharne Memorial Hall. Just a quick note to let you know that you can still take part in the water collection and/or water analysis (both on Thursday November 14) even if you didn't manage to get to the training session. If you cannot make Tuesday's meeting and still wish to take part, just let me know. Last month's minutes are attached, also. Plus our Health & Safety guide for anyone collecting water samples. November meeting agenda: Roll call and apologies 1. Approval of minutes 2. Matters arising i) Trinity contact ii) Seasons/Landal iii) Slurry update 3. chairman's report 4. Secretary's report 5.
