Lancaster Music Festival CIC (LMF) is a grassroots Community Interest Company which aims to benefit the Lancaster community through music. We aim to achieve this primarily through an urban music festival which takes place annually over a weekend in October which consists of concerts, participatory events, workshops, talks and exhibitions for a local and visiting audience in excess of 55,000 bringing an economic benefit to Lancaster in excess of £2m. Established in 2009, the festival celebrates the wonderful diversity and quality of musicians and performers in the local area, providing a platform for the district’s musicians, community music groups, practitioners and arts organisations, whilst also inviting acts from all over the globe. More than 98% of the festival is free to attend. In 2024 there were over 60 venues with 536 performances from more than 330 acts; and 83 participation events with over 3,000 participants.
We have a proven track record developing and producing public- and commercially-funded activities that have involved local arts organisations (More Music, Ludus Dance, Dukes Theatre), Lancaster City Council, the Universities, the Duchy of Lancaster, local schools, community groups, churches, museums, disability rights groups, ethnic community groups, community radio stations and more, and a team of volunteers, all collaborating with us to ensure all the community can take part in showcasing and enjoying the city’s musical talents while at the same time enhancing civic pride, community spirit and well-being for residents and visitors alike.
This year will be the 15th edition of the festival.
Our key initiatives are talent development; to increase engagement with and participation of young and early years children; increase female representation; improve accessibility; increase engagement with the city’s ethnic communities; develop new audiences and programmes; and extend the duration of our activities.
