The idea
Working with GPs, councils, maternity groups, and community organisations, we reach women who would benefit most. Each participant completes a short chat and questionnaire before joining our six-week wellbeing programme, held during school hours to give mums and carers protected time for themselves. Our venue, provided free by An Hour For Others charity, is safe, welcoming, and child-friendly and would like to add food and other materials in . We use coping strategies, confidence, routines, friendships, and mindfulness. Guest speakers share inspiring stories of recovery, and creative workshops plus community walks encourage connection beyond the classroom. Later sessions explore education, volunteering, and employment opportunities, supported by soft-skills training in communication and self-presentation. Courses run year-round with 8–12 women per group, with regular feedback shaping improvements. Demand already exceeds capacity, and funding will help us expand to support more women.
What we'll deliver
- Deliver six additional six-week wellbeing programmes, supporting around 100 more women each year.
- Fund qualified facilitators, guest speakers, and creative workshop materials to enhance sessions.
- Cover venue costs, refreshments, and childcare support to keep sessions free and accessible.
- Create a volunteer training pathway so past participants can co-lead future programmes.
- Develop new community walks and provide mental health and confidence resources for participants.
- Invest in digital access, outreach, and improved feedback systems to expand reach and measure impact.
Why it's a great idea
Ladies That Journey strengthens communities across Liverpool by improving women’s well being, confidence, and connection. Many women we support feel isolated due to unemployment, childcare pressures, or low self-esteem. Research from Liverpool Public Health shows women in deprived areas face higher risks of poor mental health and loneliness. Our six-week programme offers a safe, supportive space to rebuild confidence, learn coping tools, and form lasting friendships. Our community walks also help women reconnect with local parks and green spaces. We help women reach their potential by supporting them early, improving mental health, confidence, and life skills, and introducing routes into volunteering, education, and work. We support people under pressure by offering free, local, child-friendly sessions that remove barriers caused by the cost-of-living crisis. Born from lived experience, the project is community-led and shaped by women’s feedback, helping them feel stronger,
