Updates
Thank you so much for backing our campaign to install a new wind turbine at Kielder Observatory. Your support has meant the world to us, and we're excited to share how your contribution is set to make an even greater impact than we originally hoped. We’re thrilled to let you know that, through a partnership with Cumberland Council and the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region Programme, we now have the opportunity to go beyond simply replacing the wind turbine. Since our fundraising campaign, costs have risen significantly and the funds we raised were no longer enough to cover the turbine on their own. But thanks to this new collaboration, we’re still installing the wind turbine and now also upgrading our entire energy system with new inverters and solar panels, giving the Observatory a much stronger, more sustainable off-grid setup for the future. Rest assured, your donation will still be helping to deliver a wind turbine at Kielder Observatory, just as we originally planned. Next Steps and Your Role To make this happen, we’re allocating the crowdfunded donations to the Borderlands programme as part-payment for the full renewable energy upgrade. Our two largest supporters — Accenture and the North East Combined Authority — have both approved the use of their donations for this expanded project. Now, we want to make sure you’re happy with this approach too. If you have any concerns, or if you’d prefer that your donation be used solely for the wind turbine and not as part of this wider upgrade, please email us at [email protected]. If you ever want to get in touch in the future to talk about your donation, we’ll always listen, and offer a refund where appropriate. Thank you again for being part of this big change at Kielder Observatory. We’ll continue to keep you posted as the project progresses. With warmest thanks, The Kielder Observatory Team
We are thrilled that we have reached our target (and a little bit more!) to help us buy a new wind turbine for our observatory and we'd like to thank each and every one of you for supporting us. But we'd like to say an extra special thank you to Accenture UK, who have donated a significant amount to this project as part of their corporate social responsibility for environment and sustainability! The team at Accenture will be naming our wind turbine- we know, it's a risk game to play!- but we'll also be engaging with their staff and families and inviting them to our events. Kielder Observatory is proud to be working with Accenture on a longer term basis and we're delighted to have them as partners, not just for this project, but for some exciting things to come.
Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
