The community group Kemble at Play seeks to revitalise the Playground at Windmill Park, the heart of our village's recreational life for over 50 years. With a new long term lease secured to protect this cherished space from development, we aim to create a safe, inclusive hub for play and activity for future generations with new and refurbished equipment. The play area is an essential life line for families living nearby, who appreciate the convenience and safety it offers. Beyond being a place for play, it has fostered social interaction, community spirit, and mental well-being for both children and adults. Much of the existing equipment, installed 20 years ago, is now condemned or costly to maintain, making refurbishment and replacement essential. This project aspires to provide modern, accessible play equipment that caters to all ages and abilities, fostering a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
What we'll deliver:
- Installation of new and accessible play equipment which may incl. roundabout, cone twister, seesaw & play-panels
- Installation of new multi-purpose toddler adventure tower
- Replace existing swings with enhanced swing unit incl. bucket swing
- Remedial maintenance and repair of other existing equipment and surfacing
Why it's a great idea:
• Health and Wellness: Providing a safe place for physical activity, will encourage healthier habits and help combat issues such as obesity and mental health challenges, social isolation and reduce antisocial behaviour especially in children and teenagers.
• Safety: Refurbishing the old, deteriorating equipment will ensure the play area is safe for our children.
• Inclusiveness: The addition of accessible equipment will create a more inclusive space that caters to people of all abilities, including those with disabilities.
• Community Spirit: Our play area has always been more than a place to play. It has acted as a meeting point and social hub, strengthening the fabric of our community
• Environmental Sustainability: By refurbishing existing spaces and equipment, we will promote resourcefulness and reduce waste, supporting a more sustainable future.
• Enhanced Property Value & boost to Local Economy: Improving amenities like Windmill Park will promote Kemble as a place to live.
