More about our impact
The environment
The project has helped the environment by reducing travel-related carbon emissions. Because the club has been located in the heart of Chester, members have been able to walk or use public transport to attend lessons and training. Without a thriving local club, competitive swimmers and water polo players would have had to travel at least 20 miles multiple times each week, generating significant additional emissions. By providing accessible facilities in the city centre, the project has supported sustainable travel and has lowered the environmental impact of regular training.

Volunteering, jobs & education
Between 2024 and 2025 we increased the number of registered volunteers from 44 to 52, with many more supporting the club informally. We have provided additional training to three coaches, with qualifications requiring several months of online and in-person study. As a result, the original target of 138 hours of training has already been exceeded, and a course for a fourth coach is planned for 2026 when the next opportunity becomes available.
Arts, culture & heritage
The swimming and water polo club is one of the major user groups at Chester City Baths the Club's beautiful grade II listed Victorian home pool in the centre of Chester. The pool hire fees from the club are a major source of revenue for the Baths. Therefore having a thriving club helps to secure the future of this much loved and important heritage asset.
Activity, health and leisure
We currently have 669 young people and adults engaged in learning to swim, training, competing, and playing water polo within the club. Together, this represents a significant amount of regular physical activity undertaken each week. These activities not only promote fitness and wellbeing but also play an important role in supporting the physical and mental health of our members. At the same time, they provide a highly rewarding leisure pursuit that fosters enjoyment, confidence, and community.
