This is the second phase of our Just Hoop project..
Last year we began converting a disused section of a mill into a community sportshall, café and courts with basketball at the heart of everything.
We opened part of the facility in October 2025 and have seen hundreds of people come and use the facility since.
We now run 13 different coached sessions, catering to ages 5-78, including sessions dedicated to walking basketball, women and girls basketball.
We are incredibly proud to see the huge range of people using the facility, whether it's families coming and playing together, people coming on there own and making friends at our open court sessions or those that have caught the basketball bug and are now coming to our regular coached sessions.
Our seating areas and coffeeshop see parents come for meetups for a coffee while there younger ones play in a safe (and dry!) environment.
Our camps have been really popular with juniors to date, with our most recent ones being at capacity with specialist guest coach visits!
Our volunteer base has grown since opening, we have been especially proud to see the group of 18-24 year olds that have helped operate the facility, gaining experience, new interests and making new connections along the way.
We love getting such positive feedback and how great it is to have such a unique facility here on our doorsteps.
Adrian Whittles: Basketball head coach and long running volunteer, coach, referee and basketball league committee member:
"Since I was first introduced to Basketball in 1998, I fell in love with the sport and it has been a big part of my life ever since, playing at University, national league and various local leagues.
Since then, I have always loved playing in the park, and since an early age wished there was an indoor facility where you could turn up and play despite the weather.
Now with the support of our fantastic committee and local community, we have brought my childhood dream to life for ourselves and future generations and will continue to help grow a fantastic sport in the area"
