Solar panels were installed on the roof in March 2022, helping to reduce electricity usage by approximately 23%. The recently installed battery system will allow us to store some of the excess electricity for later use in the evening or the following day. Modelling suggests a further 17% of savings on our electricity usage, taking the total savings to 40%.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

'The Jessie' is reliant upon volunteers, for instance, the 12 Trustees on the Management Committee and the 15 or so other local people who freely give their time and energy to help to run social activities, serve refreshments and organise fundraising events in the Hall. Over the summer, several new volunteers have started to help in this way.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

The Hall is used for regular activities throughout the week (eg. Ballet, Pilates, Tae Kwon Do, Dance, WI, Gardening Club). There are regular community events and activities such as quiz and film nights during the winter months, fundraisers for local organisations and charities, plus ‘tea n chat’ social gatherings every month. The newly installed battery to support the solar panel system will enhance numerous economic and societal benefits, for example, reducing the Hall’s ongoing running costs, providing an affordable community facility for hirers, and maintaining a warm and welcoming environment.
