The idea
Started in 1911 International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Wem Rural Parish Council hosted the first ever International Women's Day Event in Wem which over 500 people attended. We would therefore like to host another event in 2025 to again celebrate the success of local women.
What we'll deliver
- Host an event
- Creating networking support
- Create career workbooks
Why it's a great idea
By inviting women to talk about their journey including some of the barriers that they have overcome other women will be inspired and be able to to access free support and training in order to start their own business or follow their passion with what they want to do - not what they are told or have to do.
Raising awareness of issues such as equality or inclusion women will feel that they are not struggling alone and by hosting an event including workshops and speakers they will be able to learn the skills needed to get started.
Women will also be able to sign up to further free networking events so they will received the ongoing support and mentoring they needed for positive change for themselves and their families.
Women will be supporting other women and we expect that the local economy will grow, more jobs created and women will be more successful in all areas of their life.
