We will be running a group once a month in Chalfont St Peter. The group will be aimed at older local people. The group will run from 10am-2pm and the guests will be provided with refreshments throughout the day and lunch. In the morning the group will be joined by a local group of children, some sessions will be babies and toddlers with their parents and some will be a group of children and a teacher from a local school. The School Children will sit and chat with the older people as well as participating in activities and games with them. The Babies and Toddlers will play with toys and the older people can chat with parents and join in with playing if they want to. After lunch we will have another activity, this may be a speaker on topics such as local history or a fitness activity such as arm chair zumba. The day will finish with refreshements. We will provide transport to and from the group for those that can't get there themselves..

What we'll deliver:

  • To reduce isolation and loneliness for at least 65 older people.

Why it's a great idea:

We run similar projects in other local areas. They have proven extremly popular. The older people have said it is a joy to spend time with the younger people and that the group cheers them up and gives them something to look forward to. The group will reduce isolation and loneliness, improve confidence and social skills as well as buidling links and friendships within the local community.

Steps to get it done:

  • We will advertise the group in as many places as possible to ensure we reach the people who would most benefit.
  • We will recruit and carry out neccessary checks for volunteer drivers.
  • We will meet with local schools to finalise the plans for the students to attend the group.
  • We will advertise the Baby and Toddler sessions.
  • We will hold an opening session and invite the press to further advertise the group.
  • We will start running the group in March 2020 with varied and exciting activities.
