The Latest from Imberhorne: at the ♥ of our community
Since hitting our target and receiving the funds we have purchased and installed 4 defibrillators - 2 on each of our school sites. The internal ones are by our sports facilities and available for all members of the school community and provide extra assurance for both them and the many lessees of our facilities. These include cricket and football clubs; martial arts groups; dance and theatre groups; motorcycle training and several youth groups.
The ones mounted on the outside of our two buildings have been registered with the emergency services who have details of when the school is open and the units available to the general public. The defibrillator unit at Imberhorne Lane was taken to an emergency at the end of November 2020 by a member of the public, under instruction from the 999 operator, so has already been of use. We have purchased replacement pads and committed funds for any servicing needed.
The CPR manikins were purchased and used for Y9 student training by our trained 1st aider which proved to be very successful, worthwhile and, according to the students involved, very enjoyable but harder work than they expected. This was, unfortunately, brought to a sudden halt by the Corona pandemic and the school closing. This also meant we could not undertake the staff training which had been arranged for the summer term when Y11 and Y13 exam study created some available staff time for it to take place. This is now pencilled in for June 2021 after which it will be full steam ahead with 1st aid training at KS3 during Personal Development time. Our aim is that all students should have practised CPR before leaving KS3 - just think of the difference that could make to the survival chances of someone whose heart stops near one of them in the future.
Thank you to our many supporters who enabled this project to come to fruition. We could not have done it without you.
