Hythe Green Preservation Society was originally established some years ago to focus resistance to repeated atttempts at development of the Green. More recently we have successfully lobbied the council to work in partnership with Fields in Trust, in order to protect it "in perpetuity". Our work now is with volunteers to maintain and enhance the woods, litter-picking, wildflower planting and coppicing.
The proposed wood will connect two cleared woodland walks and provide a shaded and attractive amenity for everyone.
Hythe Green Preservation Society works with the Bumblebee Conservation Society, Hedgehog Preservation Society and Kent Wildlife Trust. We have recently planted 400 English Bluebells, aconites and snowdrops, ordering 60,000 bluebell seeds for this Autumn. Earlier initiatives have relaid almost a mile of native hedging and increased biodiversity by 67%.
Our activities are supported stongly by volunteers and we have been told repeatedly how much a valuable plkace the green has been for those otherwise socially isolated and struggling during the pandemic lockdowns.
The facebook voting in support of the Wood stands at 126 in favour with 1 vote against. Further leafletting and paper votes have delivered evidence of an overwhelming desire for this initiatve.
