The HUDAWI Consortium is a collective of community leaders, entrepreneurs, and cultural advocates united by a shared vision to restore the historic HUDAWI Cultural Centre in Huddersfield. Once a cornerstone of African-Caribbean life in the town, the centre is being re-designed as a modern, inclusive community hub and a spiritual home for the many talents, businesses, organisations and residents who shape the Huddersfield community identity.
Founded on collaboration, the Consortium brings together expertise from business, the arts, education and social enterprise to preserve and celebrate the diverse heritages that make up the Huddersfield community, while empowering future generations. Its mission is to make the HUDAWI Cultural Centre a thriving space where culture, creativity, and community come together, making it a place that honours the past while inspiring progress.
The Consortium’s work is guided by five key principles:
Plans for the revitalised centre include performance and event spaces, a community café, business incubator, youth and education programmes, wellbeing rooms, and heritage exhibitions. Every element is designed to create opportunity, nurture talent, and strengthen local pride.
Working in partnership with local educational facilities, and organisations, the Consortium aims to deliver lasting social and economic impact; from job creation and youth engagement to cultural tourism and creative enterprise.
The HUDAWI Consortium also champions sustainability, embedding eco-friendly practices throughout the centre’s redevelopment to ensure a positive legacy for future generations.
Reviving the Hudawi Cultural Centre is more than a restoration project, it’s a concept. It represents unity, resilience and renewal, reaffirming the enduring contribution of Huddersfield’s Afro-Caribbean community.
Hudawi will once again stand as a beacon of culture, opportunity and belonging.
The HUDAWI's CIO application is on-going and in the interim BBSA, a consortium member and a registered CIC, will be our named holding organisation.
