By Hope Street Community Cafe and Hub
Hope Street is a community café and hub set in Ormskirk town centre to provide a safe, warm and welcoming space where individuals and families can come for support with all aspects of life challenges.
Hope Street has been supporting individuals and families with mental health inequalities since 2018 before opening Hope Street Community Cafe and Hub in December 2022. Since opening the premises, we've heard what the community need, and changed our services accordingly. Throughout 2022 - present day, we have provided support through our range of activities 6-days, and 3-nights a week with mental health inequalities, dementia, social isolation, loneliness, domestic abuse, LGBTQIA+, autism, children and young people, parents, bereavement, menopause, and cost of living crisis. Originally, the café and hub was supposed to pay staff; however, the cost of living crisis hit, and we are using this to pay for hefty overheads that we didn't envisage. Therefore, to continue our valued services that supports 4000 individuals a month across Lancashire and Merseyside, we are requesting funding for overheads, which will enable us to continue providing this space.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
• Support residents to receive all the income support they are entitled to • Support residents to address factors that put their health at risk e.g., smoking, alcohol misuse, drug misuse, low physical activity by signposting into other services offered by Hope Street and wider service provision • Support residents whose health is affected by others putting them at risk e.g., domestic abuse, sexual abuse • Support families to help them provide a healthy environment for pregnant women and children under five. • Connect them to their communities, and feel less lonely and socially isolation . Reducing stress in parents . A safe space for LGBTQIA+ community . A meet-up for those who have neurodivergent conditions . Those affected by cancer, menopause, dementia, and carers of those with dementia . A prevalent older generation
