The idea
We have a wonderful local peer-led breastfeeding support group that is hugely popular and is of great benefit to our community. It's not unusual to get 20 or more Mums and their babies turn up on any given day. As a result of the large number of mums needing help and advice it is not always possible for everyone to be given the in-depth help they need.
Our aim is to provide a specialised clinic environment, staffed by an experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant to offer much needed help and support for more complex or challenging breastfeeding issues. Mums in the HD9 area could be referred on from the breastfeeding group, or self-refer.
Access to the clinic would be open to any member of our community, working on a sliding scale basis, providing care free of charge when needed. With in-home lactation visits financially out of reach for many families, our goal is to make sure no-one has to go without the help they need due to lack of resources.
What we'll deliver
- Provide a lactation clinic 8 hours per week
- Equip mums with evidence-based breastfeeding information to enable them to make their own informed choices
Why it's a great idea
Timely access to clinical breastfeeding support so that mums breastfeeding journey is not needlessly interrupted. Open to anyone in the HD9 area, creating equity of access to these resources.
