Holiday Home gets vital funds needed for rejuvenation project

Vincentian Concern

A replacement holiday home was achieved with funding through Spacehive, a website which works with local district councils to raise funds to support local projects. Chester West and Chester Council saw great merit in the application and 44% of the money needed was allocated to the project just before Christmas last year (2022). The final funds were raised by individual backers

Volunteering, jobs & education

The Holiday Home requires volunteers to assist families in booking; preparing for and attending their holidays including transport to and from the holiday site. A committee overseas the running of the Holiday Home and befriending occurs before and after the holidays.

Activity, health and leisure

We are able again to offer families the opportunity to take part in the club activities such as swimming and walking on the nearby beach. They can relax in a safe environment which helps with mental help. they will have happy shared memories.

The SVP is an international lay-led Catholic voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to people in need and financial assistance where appropriate. We offer help to anyone suffering poverty and distress in whatever form, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

Through our church based membership and local presence, the SVP is a major force in grassroots community activism and lay leadership throughout England and Wales. As an organic, dynamic and responsive charity, we work with a broad spectrum of people including ex-offenders, families in crisis, victims of domestic violence, people affected by /recovering from substance misuse, people who are in debt, impoverished, unemployed, sick, isolated or lonely. We joyfully extend our hand in the care and personal service of individuals and families who need support.

The SVP is a registered as a charity in England and Wales.

The local SVP organisation has six groups centered on Catholic Churches in Chester and Ellesmere Port. These six groups form a District that owns and manages the Holiday Home. In line with our defined objectuves we help those in need in whatever form it comes by turning 'concern into action'. Our beneficiaries are the lonely, hungry, homeless, destitute and the marginalised in society.

A main theme of our work locally is befriending, by providing a listening ear and support where required. This includes visiting beneficiaries in their own homes, in residential care homes, refuges, hospitals, and prisons. Our befriending extends to organising social events, and identifying additional needs including financial and household support and the opportunity to have time away on a holiday. The latter is achieved by the financing and management of our local Holiday Home.

The Holiday Home offers 32 weeks of free holidays a year to families from Chester and Ellesmere Port, some of whom are refugees and all are in need.
