The idea
We are expanding our grief tending offerings in Shropshire—creating more spaces for people to gather in community grief cafés, receive subsidised 1:1 support, and train as grief volunteers. Grief is a universal part of life, yet many carry it alone. Our cafés offer a warm, inclusive environment where sorrow is welcomed and honoured, not silenced or fixed. With this funding, we’ll reach more people, train local volunteers in holding space, and provide accessible, trauma-informed support. This project will support those grieving death, loss, change, or crisis—anyone in need of connection in their healing. Our team of trained facilitators and community weavers have already seen the deep need and impact of this work. With your help, we can strengthen a local culture of collective care, making grief support not a luxury, but a birthright.
What we'll deliver

- Volunteer Training and Development
- Subsidised 1:1 Support
- Community Connection and Awareness
- Evaluation and Reflection
Why it's a great idea
This project will bring emotional support, connection, and resilience to individuals and the wider community. By expanding our grief cafés and 1:1 support, we’ll create inclusive spaces where people feel safe to express grief without judgment or pressure to “move on.” Participants often report feeling less isolated, more empowered, and more connected after attending. Training local volunteers builds community capacity to respond to grief with care and confidence. As a result, we nurture a culture that sees grief as a shared human experience—not a private burden. The ripple effect includes improved mental health, stronger relationships, and deeper compassion across generations. This project helps people feel seen and supported, and strengthens the emotional fabric of our local area. Everyone benefits when grief is witnessed, held, and transformed together.
