We are a community orientated church reaching and restoring the destitute and marginalised in our local area and beyond. Our objectives are to create a conducive environment in our shelter in which homeless people can regain confidence; the ability to look after themselves, improve their health and be independent. The Highway House provides food, recreation, counselling, employment training and pastoral support to about 40 men at a time (for very short periods have we had to shelter women also). The project has been in existence since August 2009 and over the past three years over 500 people have been beneficiaries of the Highway House. Residents have moved on to either find stable employment enabling them to rent a property; or have been provided housing by the council whilst others have gained enough stability to return back to their countries of origin. We require funding to upgrade the living space of our residents to make it more suitable for them.
