ACT Tynedale CIC (Active Travel Tynedale Community Interest Company) is an organisation devoted to campaigning for improvements to active travel infrastructure and the promotion of active travel in Tynedale. We have applied for registration as a CIC with confirmation awaited from Companies House.
We define active travel as any mode which is sustainable and at least in part self-propelled such as walking, running, cycling, e-cycling, horseriding, roller skating, skateboarding - and everything else inbetween!
We have already organised three cycle rides, which were combined with community walks. The events attracted a diversity of local people (who had a lot of fun together) and demonstrated the beauty of our local landscapes - as well as the possibility of exploring the region without pollution-heavy transport.
We are keen to show the advantages of improvements to cycleways, bridleways, shared use paths and footpaths, including within our town centres. We want to encourage imaginative plans to walk, cycle, skate, scoot and rickshaw! These improvements can transform our area by making it safer, cleaner and more sociable. Our projects will reinvigorate the walking and rambling culture that is such a well established feature of our local culture. Tynedale folk appreciate the beauty of the area, as well as the health and well-being benefits of living amongst glorious natural landscapes such as the North Pennines AONB. We believe our activities will actively promote inclusion - creating safe, accessible urban spaces that all kinds of people can enjoy. We cooperate with other organisations - including Hexham Town Council, Transition Tynedale, Hexham Climate Action and Northumberland County Council - to integrate our project with the shared aims of these partners.
