More about our impact
The environment
We’ve transformed an outdoor piece of agricultural land into a fully grassed, repurposed activity area for families affected by childhood cancer. The site was levelled, seeded, top-soiled, fenced, and planted with trees. Over the summer, we delivered a range of activities and had a marquee on site, providing huge benefits for the families we support while enhancing the local area.
The local economy
Our project supported the local economy by engaging local suppliers and contractors for landscaping, fencing, and planting, as well as creating temporary roles for staff running summer activities and the marquee. By transforming the space into a welcoming outdoor area, we attracted families to the site, increasing footfall and potential spending in nearby businesses.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Our project created new opportunities for volunteering and employment, engaging local volunteers to help with site preparation and activity delivery. Additional funding allowed us to offer some paid roles, due to increase in activities.
Arts, culture & heritage
Our project enriched arts, culture, and heritage by creating a space where creative outdoor activities and family events could take place. Seasonal planting, nature walks, and themed activity sessions encouraged families to engage with the natural environment and connection to the land.
Activity, health and leisure
Our project promoted activity, health, and leisure by transforming the site into a safe, accessible outdoor space for families affected by childhood cancer. The grassed area, nature walks, and seasonal planting encouraged physical activity, outdoor play, and time in nature, supporting both mental and physical well-being. Regular activities and events provided opportunities for relaxation, social interaction, and leisure, helping families enjoy quality time together in a healthy, engaging environment.
