The idea
Nottingham Arts Theatre seeks funding to refurbish a large upstairs studio space, including new heating, electrics and flooring. Our vision is to transform this venue into a versatile hub for local groups, including youth organisations, drama clubs, and businesses in the vibrant location of Hockley. As an education charity and community theatre, we aim to provide an attractive and accessible space in the heart of Nottingham. The space has received numerous enquiries for group hire, however, the current lack of adequate facilities such as the condition of the floor, lack of heating and suitable furnishings such as tables and blinds, has led potential users elsewhere, and we believe that these improvements will attract diverse groups that will in turn contribute to the cultural fabric of our city.

Why it's a great idea
With the proposed funding, Nottingham Arts Theatre will undergo substantial transformation. By renovating the room, we will be able to offer a versatile space that can be rented by local groups, including youth organizations, charities, local clubs, and businesses. Alongside the city’s investment in Hockley, the Creative Quarter and local business community, the Arts Theatre will provide an attractive venue for hire, bringing groups into our city.
The increased revenue generated from any future room rentals will also provide a measurable boost to our mission to provide vital youth and adult education programs in the arts. As our income grows, we’ll have the opportunity to expand our small staff team, creating training and employment opportunities and enhancing our capacity to serve the community.
Furthermore, offering an affordable space in this historical building will help us to foster creativity, nurture talent, and contribute to the wider cultural scene in our vibrant city.
