Help school students share their views

We are helping schools in Shropshire to air student views through a dedicated radio magazine show that will empower them to gain confidence and tackle issues in their schools and communities.

This project has reached its fundraising target. It has also activated Continuous Fundraising, which means you can still donate and support the project.

More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

Though the project wasn't specifically environmentally led, subject matter discussed means there's a natural lean towards the environment of our communities - we're looking to extend this more as the project continues so we get to understand what issues, local, national and international are affecting our young people.

The local economy

The local economy

Whilst not directly affecting revenue we believe that a school having a radio club will benefit from additional exposure across county. But also, local businesses will be encouraged to support their local primary school radio club in exchange for some pupil inspired advertising which would be truly unique. There's also a strong argument that students participating in a school radio club will grow additional skills and confidence thus likely resulting in them being more employable.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We've had parents express a desire to volunteer, but we've also had 3 new volunteers come through who have wanted to work on the school radio club project specifically. We're also in conversation with a couple of people who'd like to assist us from a management perspective too - they are charity and community sector specific and bring a wealth of knowledge and contacts with them. The radio club's are accessible to almost 1000 students, their tutors and families get to know and listen to what they're doing. The project has caught the imagination of our local council who wish to fund the project into a further 10 primary schools across Shropshire. From the most attended primary school to the least, across demographics - so we get a true balance of representation of young voices.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

Whilst not wishing to directly say this is an arts project, we hope that as it continues we begin to be able to invite some students into our main studio to begin to head up a monthly student show. Right from organising the show, the music genre, guests etc from time clock, through to researching content that they report on

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Again, this isn't a direct health project - however talking, and learning to communicate, work in teams etc is positive mental health. Subject content such as reviewing their sports days emphasizes how exercise can play a key role in physical and mental health as well as forming friendships and working together.
