The idea
We are fortunate to have a small but thriving central London courtyard garden which continues thanks to efforts of residents over the years. Having transformed a tarmac area into a miniature nature reserve, residents have worked magic with limited funds, attracting many birds, butterflies, bees and even bats! But now, essential tasks are proving difficult if not impossible without purchasing new equipment. We need necessary items such as a proper new hose, soil, bedding containers, and tools to help with our garden maintenance and improvement. We want to re-establish what was a historic garden for residents and their friends and encourage our residents to keep it going as well as being an inspiration to other communities to do the same.
What we'll deliver
- A proper collapsable watering hose so that we do not lose precious trees and plants over the summer.
- New and improved flower beds, fresh plantings, bird bath etc.
- A delightful, garden easier to maintain in the long term
- A welcoming oasis for our residents and friends and an attractive place for our wildlife such as birds, bees and bats!
Why it's a great idea
We are nurturing a much needed green space in Central London, which is already home to a variety of birds, and wildlife! We are fortunate to have residents who have the energy and volunteer their time to keep the space going for the quiet enjoyment of all residents and their guests. From what was a tarmac area for generations, we have reclaimed the space and again created what was once an original historic garden at Chenies Street Chambers. This not only benefits our residents, but seamlessly connects to the green corridor running throughout Central London. Many residents can enjoy the green and flowering garden and birdsong from their windows and others will be able to enjoy sitting in the garden with their guests, or even participate in planting, pruning digging and creating a wonderful community project.
Steps to get it done
- By early June - purchase a new garden hose
- By mid June - purchase soil and tools
- By end of June - funds allowing, source and purchase planters and plants
We are also applying to Community Investment Fund to boost our funding for landscaping items
