The idea
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have been meeting at Hassocks Guide Hut for over 100 years. Currently 6 units made up of around 140 girls and adults meet regularly at the hut throughout the year. The girls are offered safe, welcoming space to try new things, help other people and discover their passions and talents.
Hassocks Guide Hut is also available to other members of the local community to hire for a small charge. In this capacity it is used for fitness classes, children's birthday parties and other small events and celebrations.
The current fixed heating system, which has been in place for ~12 years, is ineffective. During the past few winters, portable heaters were used to supplement the heating but these can no longer be used for insurance purposes. This coming winter the heating will be inadequate for the needs of the units.
We are hoping to fund raise to install a new system that will allow both Girlguiding and the local community to continue use the hut all year round.
What we'll deliver
- New heating system for Hassocks Guide Hut
Why it's a great idea
Installing a new heating system will ensure that the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides can continue to meet at Hassocks Guide Hut throughout the year. This will enable Girlguiding to continue to have a positive impact on the lives of children and young people in Mid Sussex, allowing them to learn new skills, take on exciting challenges, build confidence and help their communities.
The local community will also benefit from maintaining Hassocks Guide Hut. The hut is currently available to hire for small events and celebrations and is also used by a local fitness company on a regular basis, thereby promoting the health and wellbeing of the local community.
It is hoped that installing new heaters will increase the appeal of the hut to other organisations looking for a venue to hold classes, groups etc., broadening the community use of the facilities. The income generated by hiring out Hassocks Guide Hut will in turn support its ongoing upkeep.
