The idea
We helped to reopen the food bank that closed couple of months ago due to the overwhelming demand. We are now helping locals with three foodbanks. We will need to fund this so it can keep going and support the most in need.
Also some volunteers are driving quite a lot to provide the support and we want to ask offer them mileage etc.
Our phone line is very busy as we received over 1000 calls last week. So the phone line cost us about £20/week - which we will need to cover.
Eventually, when the crisis is over - we will continue provide support to the people who will requires support after this crisis until they are stable and stand in their feet.
We have helped over 1200 people from 20th March to 30th May 2020 and more requests are coming everyday as we extended our service to NHS, Care and Key workers along with vulnerable and self-isolating.
We are also helping local district and town councils with their immediate needs where they are struggling due to resource and funding.
What we'll deliver
- Food and supplies to those who are unable at this crisis.
- Food/Shopping and Prescription pick-up and drop off service
- Friendly phone calls and general supports over the phone
- NHS, Care and Key workers with their needs
- Local councils with any requests they are struggling with
Why it's a great idea
People will have the basic necessities in this crisis - specially the vulnerable, most-vulnerable and shielded group. Also anyone in isolation can call and speak to us about their need and we can assist and help them.
We have extended our support to NHS, Care and Key workers.
Also we are helping MSDC and local town and parish councils with their urgent needs which they are unable to attend due to resource in this unprecedented time.
Steps to get it done
- We have helped almost 1200 households in last 4 weeks
- We have over 500 active volunteers from registered over 700 volunteers
In last 9 weeks we have helped 1200 households and more coming. As the crisis is taking it's toll - more people will require help and support. So before things get better - it will get worse and we need to prepare for this beforehand.
