The idea
Please note that whilst we have identified August 2021 as the month that will mark the first-ever Writers Festival in the west London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, we will continue to be guided by government health & safety rules and will move this event online if necessary. Any changes to the project will be communicated clearly through this page.
Taking place between the Bush Theatre and Shepherds Bush Library, Westfield, in August 2021, the one-day festival will platform a host of authors, writers and poets from across genres.
The idea for a writer’s festival came about after the women and girl’s community organisation, WILDE (women in literature development & empowerment) who host creative and empowerment events found that our borough had no literary festival.
What we'll deliver
- Host a one day writers festival
- Platform authors and writers to perform live reads
- Authors & writers to host creative writing workshops
Why it's a great idea
The benefits of H&F Writers Festival is:
• Provide Hammersmith/Fulham residents their own writers festival
• To raise the profile of indie authors within the borough and reach more readers
• To encourage and give a platform to new writers/voices from marginalised backgrounds
• To build our own network with other local authors to mutual benefit
• To provide an alternative to other festivals which do not admit indies
• To demonstrate to other parts of the book trade that indie authors, BAME authors can be a real draw for local audiences
• Create an annual creative, fun event for all the family
Steps to get it done
- Designing the website which will provide information and updates on the festival
