Hammersmith BID is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. We are a small and passionate team of eight individuals who care deeply about our local area. Each of us brings a different perspective and skillset, with backgrounds in the charity sector, town centre management, retail and marketing, to name a few.
The BID celebrates and strengthens Hammersmith’s sense of community, place and safety, helping to create a welcoming and vibrant area for all. We do this in part by activating the town centre, providing fun and educational events and installations. We rely on funds from local businesses, and our fundraising efforts, to do so.
Current examples of our work include the annual Summer Festival, the Conscious Hammersmith (CSR and volunteering) programme, public realm improvements through our Public Realm Vision, and pop-up shops on the high street to tackle the empty unit problem.
We want to bring the In Bloom interactive light/sound sculpture to Hammersmith, using art and play to educate people about our local Hammersmith bees (the roof of Lyric Theatre is home to 180,000 Buckfast bees) and the importance of bees as a keystone species. We also want to celebrate urban biodiversity and empower people to protect it.
Additionally, the project will bring a sense of community, civic pride, safety, and will help boost the local economy through increasing dwell time in Hammersmith.
