The idea
This project has support in principle from Hackney council and we are working directly with the Mayor of Hackney, Phillip Glanville, to make it a reality. However, no funds will be transferred to the project until parklet designs are finalised and formal approvals from all relevant departments of the council have been secured, which we expect to happen during the duration of the campaign.
The Parklet will be a great addition to our road to the benefit of the local community. It will be a place for meeting and networking, a pedestrian friendly pocket in Median Road. The Parklet will be located on a double parking bay by Mad Atelier, a boutique of interiors, architecture practice and art gallery.
It will be an oasis of green, surrounded by pollution filtering plants, wild flowers and host a hotel for butterflies and bees. Its structure will be a canvas for art as we will involve local artists to decorate it.
What we'll deliver
- Design & Build a double bay Park-let on Median Road
- Involve local artists to play with the surfaces of the Park-let and tastefully decorate it
- Planting pollution filtering plants and wild flowers
- Install Butterflies houses
- Install solar powered lights
Why it's a great idea
The Pocket Garden will be a positive addition to the neighbourhood and a joyful complement to the streetscape; in the contemporary urbanity where parking spaces are no longer needed but more green is highly desired.
A place for locals to meet, exchange ideas and connect; a green pocket for humans and wildlife .
