The idea
Yes, we know they're going to be moving, but that's a couple of years away and we want to improve the visitor experience NOW. What's more, our young people doing the work will gain skills that will help them gain a real job. We will use recyclable structures and planting that will move with us to our next project.
What we'll deliver
- Create wildflower areas for bees and butterflies
- Clear overgrown areas and make great compost
- Plant moveable containers
Why it's a great idea
Visitors to the centre will have a much better experience - enjoying the great views of the River Thames from an improved platform. Volunteers will receive a Gift in Kind from the Watermans - access to the great range of performing and other arts at free or reduced costs
Steps to get it done
- buying plants and equipment
- create a compost area
- clearing overgrown beds
- create amazing planters
- sowing wild flower seeds
It's a chance for young people learning disabilities and/or autism to grow. We enjoy working outside and want to make a positive contribution to our local places. It keeps us active after leaving school and college and we learn practical skills for life, including gaining work experience.
