The idea
Friends of Grove Farm, an active community group, aims to enhance Grove Farm Nature Reserve. Our plan involves three actions.
First, we’ll transform the abandoned, fly-tipped land at Bedser Drive into a vibrant community garden, creating a welcoming entrance to the reserve and enhancing the path to Sudbury Hill’s amenities.
Second, we’ll raise awareness about Grove Farm’s importance for nature conservation. We’ll install signs and notice boards at entry points, promoting community activities and providing valuable reserve information, building on our previous successful project.
Lastly, we’ll establish a volunteer hub in a repurposed shipping container. This hub will store tools, serve as a meeting point, and feature a refreshment area, making volunteering more enjoyable. Our dedicated volunteers, who work every fortnight, will greatly benefit.
What we'll deliver
- Two gardens featuring herbs for cooking and pollinator-friendly flowers
- Buy materials, make and install three signboards and frames
- Buy a small shipping container and transform it into a community hub for Grove Farm
Why it's a great idea
Our project will benefit the following groups:
Local Residents: Many walk past the proposed community garden to reach Sudbury Hill tube. Improving the reserve’s entrance will provide residents with a more pleasant environment for their daily activities and commutes.
Volunteers: No more carrying heavy tools or borrowing from another friends group a mile away. Our volunteer hub will provide a meeting point, tool storage and help us develop a sense of community, making it easier and more enjoyable to volunteer at Grove Farm.
Visitors: Improved signage will enhance the visitor experience by providing valuable information about the nature reserve and its importance for nature conservation. This can attract more visitors to the reserve, promoting outdoor activities and appreciation for nature.
Local Nature: By enhancing the reserve and promoting conservation, the project will contribute to the preservation and enrichment of the local ecosystem.
