More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

We continued to support the "People's Garden" community gardening group, some of whom have learning difficulties. We supported environmental organisations, including the Northumberland Wildlife Trust and Planet Action Street Arts, who advocate for sustainability. We carried out a "spring clean" of the local area, collecting litter from streets, planters and public space. We planted 100 trees in a boundary hedge. We supported sustainable transport through running a series of "Dr Bike" sessions and guided rides with less confident cyclists.

The local economy

The local economy

Several local businesses were directly employed through our project: Bonsai Billabong, Planet Action Street Arts, and Trusted Bikes. Northern Slice benefited from exposure and additional footfall to the place where it operates.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

7 volunteers planted trees in the park. Each event involved up to 10 volunteers directly through the project, together with those volunteering for other organisations, including the Angelou Centre and Millin Centre, who work with women from ethnic minorities in the local area.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

We worked with Planet Action Street Arts on the "Arts and Biodiversity Celebration" event on 11th June 2023. This project involved local musicians and performance artists to express the value of nature. We also employed Hexham Morris and Star and Shadow Rapper to provide entertainment at other events.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

We supported 5 guided bike rides (one is still to be delivered at the time of writing) and repaired 25 bikes. We continue to support campaigns to improve facilities for active travel in the area.
