Greening West Norwood Train Station

Yesterday morning local people gathered together and planted the 50+ new plants (and bonus tree!) as well as placed all the fencing and laid some all important top soil. The rain stayed away until right at the end, helping us water in this new garden. These plants look small now - but they'll soon start growing and filling the space, creating a garden that will give colour and interest all year round. There's still more to do - we have over 100 bulbs to go in and everything needs to be mulched, so do reach out if you want to join in. Thanks to the amazing generosity of you all - we smashed our fundraising target! Not only does this mean we can truly transform this large unused space, planting a huge variety of pollinator-friendly plants that will beautify the station, but it also means we can absolutely fill it with spring bulbs, so you won't have to wait long to see the difference! Come join us this Sunday for our first session, or just pop by to say hello! 16+ only due to health and safety, bring gardening gloves and ideally shoes with hard toe caps - there's going to be a lot of moving of heavy logs as we terrace the area in prep for planting. We've been overwhelmed by the response to our fundraiser to bring beauty and colour to Platform 2. With the help of local residents, we hit 95% of our target within a week! Thank you all so much for supporting us to make West Norwood a greener and healthier place to live. 🌸 With that in mind, we wanted to share what we would spend the funds on should we raise more than our target: - We'd add additional plants to the green space on Platform 1 next to the steps, including a colourful selection of spring bulbs. - We would repair and refresh the community board outside Platform 2. - Any remaining funds will go towards removing the industrial flytipping on Rothschild Street's community garden that unfortunately no one else will remove. So please do keep sharing this fundraisers with neighbours and friends - all funds go towards greening West Norwood. 🌱 Thank you from everyone at Open Orchard 🌳
