The idea
The depot in Greenfield Park estate in Santry was used as a community space many years ago hosting Irish dancing classes and other events. It has fallen into disrepair over the years. We want to bring it back to life by clearing the outside space surrounding the Depot, repainting the building and planting a community garden in the outside space.

Why it's a great idea
The benefit of this project will be to bring back into use a community space for the residents of the Greenfield Park estate and surrounding area. Community events and classes can be hosted in the new community garden at the Depot once the outside space is cleaned and fixed up.
A community garden will enable the residents of the estate to come together to grow fruit and vegetables. Future projects could include growing grain to make pizza or hops to brew our own beer!
Steps to get it done
- Clear the outside area and inside the depot
- Rewire the depot and fix the roof
- Repaint the depot
- Plan the garden design and plants with community input
- Buy the plants, fruit trees, vegetable seeds, compost and materials for raised beds
- Create raised beds for planting
- Create a compost area
- Plant the fruit trees, vegetables and other plants
- Create a volunteer schedule to water and weed the plants as they grow
