The idea
Since COVID Pershore Volunteer Centre has seen more demand for its social car scheme and a heart felt plea to restart the Lunch club for older, vulnerable people who are socially isolated.
The lunch club previously attracted 50 users and volunteers and since COVID the waiting list has increased by 120%.
The project will provide transport to groups of people from the same location to attend lunch club or other social activities in Pershore and neighbouring villages and day trips to other locations.
The vehicle will enable PVDC to free up other social car scheme drivers to continue with individual services for our clients, while lunch club participants enjoy their activity.
The electric MPV will reduce the carbon footprint of Pershore Volunteer Centre.
The vehicle will enable PDVC to offer days out and other activities to socially isolated people, with no access to any public or other transport means, across the Wychavon District and promote social mobility.
What we'll deliver
- We will start up the lunch club again, moving it around the villages so that it becomes accessible to more people
- We will start up a programme of Leisure activity drives, days out, theatre visits, garden centres etc
- We will offer social mobility opportunities to people in the villages that are isolated and potentially vulnerable
Why it's a great idea
There is good support for the lunch club from the villages and we will be able to transport more people in one journey making the service more economical.
The MPV will allow us to move the lunch club around to the more rural areas promoting social mobility to the more isolated residents.
The electric MPV will give more volunteering opportunities but also will provide a service to more people in the community.
The electric vehicle will reduce the Pershore Volunteer Centre carbon footprint and reduce overall emissions in the district
The Pershore and District Community will become more inclusive enabling members to play a full part in that community
Steps to get it done
- Extend the Lunch Club to 2 other district areas
- More individual journeys will be delivered while Lunch Club and other activities are on
- Seven more Car Scheme drivers will trained in First Aid, Communication
