Updates
Due to construction in The Granville garden area, Granville Community Kitchen’s Garden has relocated part of our garden to our community partner’s allotment - the OK Club, which is right next door. With the money raised through Spacehive, we have improved our soil, bought more tools, created increased space to grow food for our community kitchen and the Good Food Box, our veg scheme. We have a brand new and beautiful greenhouse to grow plants and cuttings. We have bought compost so we can plant healthier plants and more tools so more volunteers can help us. We have eight raised planters to grow salads and vegetables. Our tuffy squash was recently picked. With increased engagement of local residents in volunteering and participation in the community garden we can increase community cohesion and solidarity. We can reach more people in need and achieve more long-term outcomes. The project overall, we believe will create better opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds from the community to come together, share knowledge and skills, participate in training, volunteer or simply enjoy working with others in the outdoors.
Dear supporters: Here is a quick update on how the Spacehive funds were used. -We bought loads of lovely seedlings for our winter planting- endives, chicory, kale, corn salad, claytonia, winter lettuce, spicy brassica salads as well as broad bean seeds and garlic bulbs. -We bought secateurs, trowels, gloves, loppers, shears, trugs, -We bought loads of compost and woodchip. -We bought windbreak protection -We have taken on a new site and are planning on building our greenhouse there rather than the original site (due to some emergent problems at that site) so we are hoping to build the greenhouse in the spring once we have had a review meeting with the new site organisation. And we’ll spend the remaining money on buying the greenhouse, Labour to put it up and staging for the inside. We are grateful for your continued support. The Granville Community Kitchen team
A great big thank you to all of our supporters for helping us raise £5,786 for Granville Community Kitchen's community garden and allotment. We have already started the work of improving our soil, buying tools and engaging our community in growing organic food in our urban garden. We have gorgeous salads and herbs and we can't wait for our new greenhouse. Stay tuned for more updates.
Whoop, 50 people have pledged since fundraising began!
Reaching our first target means we can grow loads more veg onsite, and now with our overfunding target, we want to help other people in South Kilburn to grow their own. We are also hoping to buy lots of lovely compost to fill up the beds at a local allotment site to provide fab new plots for residents to use as well as free fruit and veg plants for them to get started with. Funds will also be used to create beautiful, educational and multi -lingual Signage for both sites. Thank you for your support and please share with friends and neighbors.
Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
