By Global Diversity Positive Action
Established 3 years ago to work with the most vulnerable within the community, Global Diversity would like to up-grade the music studio and also create incubator units for the youths
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Global Diversity is a charity based in Huddersfield, the main purpose of the charity is to work with most vulnerable within the community. One of our target groups is to rehabiliate young offenders. The charity has a ground floor and a basement, in the basement is a very basic music studio and this has attracted young people and has been successful in taking them off the streets. The basement needs upgrading and refurbishing so that some of the rooms can be turned into creative hubs for the young people who want to work on their own projects, the music studio also needs to be upgraded as some of the equipment is out of date. Over the last 3 years we have worked with over 300 young people, with improved facilities we will be able to double this number and offer a wider range of facilities. By encouraging the young people to have a base and work on projects and become enterprising and even start up their own businesses. The up graded music studio will also attract more kids.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Global Diversity exists to support the most vulnerable in the community, the latest intelligence assessment (2018) for Kirklees estimates approximately 200 individuals (many of which are young people) are currently active gang members in Kirklees (with significantly more than this number at risk of involvement). Police intelligence estimates that these individuals are responsible for approximately 2/3rds of drugs supply in the District as well as an increase in violent offences. During 2018, there was a noticeable increase in serious violence including a number of widely publicised knife incidents and a number of targeted firearms incidents. Feedback from local communities indicates increased fear and also less willingness to engage with partners. By engaging with young people our project seeks to address these problems, giving young people new skills, teaching new behaviours and putting them on the path to employability. The facilities in the basement would address these needs
