Help us to improve the toilet facilities including disabled access in the church hall so we can be welcoming and inclusive to even more of our community!
To make the toilets gender neutral, we think the first for a church in Doncaster. To make a dedicated disabled toilet with baby change facilities and all toilets to be gender neutral in separate units to include hand washing facilities in each unit. Each unit to be completely enclosed to ensure total privacy. There will be safety locks so access can be gained from the outside in an emergency. The toilets will be situated so they can be accessible from different rooms enabling different groups to meet at the same time. We want the building to be updated to provide community groups with somewhere to meet locally without having to travel out of the area. We have already held an open day for the community and have ideas from them, as to what they would like the building to be used for - we can't wait to make it all a reality with your help.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The church has plenty of meeting rooms and is on one level. Due to the present poor toilet facilities it is limiting in its use. Our plan is to encourage the local community to use the building to meet socially, make friends and not feel isolated. We have a unit that houses men with learning disabilities and they have told us they want to meet with ‘ordinary people’ play games and listen to music. We have done many things to improve the building, the one thing holding us back is the toilets. The units will be big enough to support more than one person being in them to support anyone who needs help when visiting the toilet.

Thank you everyone who has contributed towards making this happen. I can’t wait to share with you the finished product. So many people will benefit from this project. It will be a step forward for the community in Balby. I will post updates and pictures as the work progresses. You will appreciate it may take a little longer to complete than we anticipated. Due to social distancing we will be unable to have as many people on site at any one time as we would have liked. Please continue to check in to see how things are going.
Thank you to our latest anonymous sponsor. We are gradually working towards our target and there is still time to pledge before the closing date of 27 January. People have been so generous in these times of so much uncertainty. I will continue to let you know how the project is progressing and hopefully we will be able to reopen with brand new facilities once the lockdown has been lifted. It will be a double celebration once the community can meet up again. In the meantime stay safe and watch this space.
