By Garstang Community Sports Club Ltd
Garstang Community Sports Club is raising money to re-develop our facility, so that we can provide accessible facilities for our growing membership of all ages, whilst also increasing community space.
GCSC is looking to improve our facilities that were constructed in around 1993 meet out increasing membership which has grown significantly across all ages. Furthermore, through these improvements we hope to broaden our appeal and provide a more appealing and inclusive environment. The current facility is out-dated and inaccessible, meaning that the facility is not fit for use by all, and is no longer big enough to meet the needs of the local community. In terms of safeguarding, the proposed improvements will include integrated shower and changing facilities which will then meet regulatory standards. Through the project we will deliver an extension housing additional changing facilities, along with a new community room which will be open to all, and improvements to the existing building, including the expansion of the main function room. Through this project we hope to further embed ourselves within the community, and continue to provide sporting opportunities for young people.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The sports club redevelopment project would have benefits for both Garstang and the wider Wyre community, this would include but is not limited to: • Over 1000 existing sports club members from across tennis, rugby, cricket, football and kayaking. • Additional members due to increased facilities size, including sponsored memberships for those from lower socio-economic background. • Local schools as the sports club provides sporting classes to local school children. • Participants in other sports such as dance, yoga and pilates, as the number of frequencies of these classes would increase significantly. • Additional usage by other community groups, broadening the appeal of the club to the local community. • Local pharmacies are looking at running Health and Wellbeing clinics at the club such as checking blood pressure etc, to reduce strain on local medical facilities, which would provide significant benefits to many local residents.
Steps to get it done:
GCSC is located in heart of our rural community, and provides sports and community facilities for the whole community to enjoy. The club owns and manages multi-sport/community facilities, unlike any within the district, and these facilities enable member clubs for football, rugby, cricket, tennis, and kayaking to offer opportunities for all to participate/compete in sport alongside space to host other local events/activities/leisure classes/volunteering opportunities. We recognise the importance and impact of offering a wide variety of activities for the physical and mental health /well-being of our community, such as pilates, dance and community events. The club has a strong focus on young people to encourage the next generation to enjoy the benefits of being part of a club; this is because sports club provide a positive attitude to exercise that extends to friendships, confidence, volunteering opportunities, skills and leadership opportunities.
