Our project ensures Fydell House and gardens offers a more welcoming environment for all by repairing and converting a garden building, The Pottery to provide toilets and accessible facilities
Fydell House is a Grade 1 listed building of significant importance – a unique visitor and heritage attraction and a much-valued space for learning, culture and a community asset. Somewhere our community visits to attend events, learn a new skill, hire for a special event, volunteer at, meet a friend or simply enjoy a relaxing walk in our award-winning garden. However, the building needs conservation repairs and currently there is limited physical access and no welfare facilities – especially for our events in the garden. This significantly limits our ability to operate fully and to serve all in our community. Our project will make significant access improvements as well as providing accessible welfare facilities. Our Crowdfunder focuses on The Pottery building in the garden, which will be repaired and converted to provide toilets and an accessible toilets/facilities for our visitors, users and volunteers.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
On completion The Pottery, in Fydell House’s award-winning garden, will offer three toilets and an accessible toilet/faciliites ensuring our garden events, functions and programme of activities can operation fully independently by having their own accessible facilities. Fydell House will be improved to offer a: Community hub offering a range of arts, cultural, health and well-being activities and events for families, schools, older people and volunteers in both the house and the garden New mixed programme of talks, activities, events and temporary exhibitions Grade I Georgian townhouse with interpretation, talks and guided tours Dedicated space and training plan for volunteers Small café menu with catering facilities Upgraded heating, lighting and electricity for users Increased access including ramp at the main entrance, level access to garden, accessible toilets, welfare facilities, quiet space, appropriate signage, digital interpretation and induction loop
Steps to get it done:
The Pottery is a separate outbuilding in the grounds of Fydell House. It will be repaired and converted to provide toilets/accessible toilets/faciliites for the visitors, users and volunteers. Having these facilities supports Fydell House's long term viability with incresed activities spreading across the house and gardens. It allows the garden to operation and have events separate to the house, thus increasing usage, arts, cultural, educational and heritage events and supports our growing Volunteering Community at Fydell House.
