Supporting communities to crowdfund for projects which matter to their neighbourhood.
Our LGBTQ+ Radio Station will provide informations, news and entertainment for the LGBTQ+ local community, support local Pride festivals and events with live coverage. Coverage will include: Sunderland, Newcastle, Gateshead, Whitley Bay and Tyne and Wear. Our station has been successfully broadcasting online and now we are ready for the next step! It’s aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, however can be enjoyed by everyone. Our claim is Music With Sparkle as we don’t play the usual mainstream playlist, but only big anthems. We offer a variety of shows, live and pre-recorded, on different themes: every show has a specific format, which makes every show unique. We develop shows in house but also open up our platform to other presenters. One of our highlighted traits from professional presenters is that we offer the opportunity to aspiring presenters. We help and give them guidance, develop their skills in presenting, editing, broadcasting laws and regulations etc and then provide them airt
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Broadcast important informations for the LGBTQ+ community, offer an inclusive place for volunteering and work placements, entertain and inform with news specifically tailored for the LGBTQ+ community, support and cover local LGBTQ+ events. In the part 2 years, we have covered a whole Pride Season (from Dover, to London, to Brighton & Hove, to Birmingham, and many others) to ensure that even those who cannot attend pride can enjoy. We were approached by Parapride to help with their first ever Pride festivals targeted towards people with disabilities. We have worked with them ever since and accessibility is always at the forefront of our minds where we are able to effectively provide it. GlitterBeam has been nominated an shortlisted for the Rainbow Honours in the category “Small Brand“. With the Covid-19 Pandemic and many countries in lockdown, we have increased our schedule with new ad-hoc shows as a part of a wider initiative called StayHome with GlitterBeam.
Steps to get it done:
GlitterBeam is different from other LGBTQ+ Radio Stations. It’s a project created from members of the LGBTQ+ community for every LGBTQ+ person, including Rainbow families: this is why despite not being regulated by Ofcom, our scheduled shows offer appropriate contents to any age before watershed. We entertain, inform and we give space to all the amazing colours of the rainbow flag. The music selection is entirely made by anthems that will make you sing and/or dance; our shows are all different, based on the presenters style and specific topics, that makes them fun and unique. We have such a far reach globally have have received messages of support from our listeners. Especially touching are the communications from anonymous individuals from countries where it is against the law to be LGTB expressing how we give them hope that things will change. We strive for accessibility for all, as such we have developed our station and our applications in house for various platforms.
