I am 19 years old and currently a student. I have always been enthusiastic about the world of music. I enjoy the creativity & freedom to express a vision. The opportunity to develop and utilise skills I have gained academically. I have been drawn to and inspired by live music through the mediums of radio, live music gigs, television & collecting both digital and physical copies of music.
I was given the opportunity whilst still at school to study a diploma in creative media and arts at a local college which gave me a sense of independence at a young age helping me create a strong foundation for my future.
Outside of the academic world I have obtained experience in multiple different outlets. My greatest achievement to date was working with a popular music festivl and I curated a stage that provided a platform to bands with members aged 13-25 to have a showcase. This helped develop my knowledge and skills and the roles of responsibility.
What this also highlighted was the difficulties that young performers can face. Venues tend to operate 18+ door policies with some not even allowing band members U18 to perform. Others issues can be travel expenses especially if band members are students or low waged. I have met artists who had spent money on fuel and then had no money for food or water which is not ideal when their load in time at a venue might be from 3pm with a 6pm sound check and then a 8pm stage time so it could be much later before they are paid for the gig if they are being paid. So I have decided to see if I can do anything to support these young performers.
